An accident last week has resulted in hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil being leaked into the ocean each day. The result will be devastating to the ecosystem of the Gulf Coast. Millions of plants and animals will be affected in the water and along the coast line.

Many people want to help, but it may not be the best idea to travel to the coast and start cleaning off animals. Proper training is required to know how to safely deal with the oil.

The Mother Nature Network has a good list of ways to help, including volunteering to rehabilitate affected animals and reporting areas where the oil can be seen from shore. To read their complete list and find the agencies to contact, please visit their website.

  1. I’ve been following this story for the last week now. The ecological impact of this spill will undoubtedly be huge. Hopefully a lot of people will get involved in some of the opportunities listed by the MNN. It really is a worthwhile cause!

  2. This entire oil spill is extremely unforunate for the environment and with the global market in many incomparable ways. This problem would have been checked originally however these hazards happen. BP should be held accountable for this global spill.

  3. they did not even stop the oil comin out. its still getting bigger. its gonin to killl so many animals. every one should pray for them.

  4. The oil spill in the gulf is surely one of the most terrible diasters of this millennium. While the destruction of the twin towers was constrained within that small area of ground zero, this oil spill stretches out across the sea, impacting innocent animals, long stretches of coast as well as local tourism and other industry. I with all my heart hope that this disaster is cleaned up as best as is possible.
